What Will You Sacrifice?

Today at mass the Priest gave a sermon about sacrifice. He said, "anything that doesn't cost a lot isn't really worth much now, is it?"

He then continued to talk about how we need to sometimes sacrifice comfort in our lives to get a greater reward in the end.

Sometimes life asks a lot of us. We often must give up what we want now to get something better in return later. The only hard part is... how often are you willing to wait tell later?

Today’s world has made the word "wait" mean a lot less than it used to. The world today is fast, immediate, and impatient. We have been trained to get what we want within minutes and when we must wait more than a few days it seems unreasonable. Today’s world has warped our sense of time and taken away an important skill called patients.

I can tell you; I personally have no patients. I am probably better than some people my age but not by much. I have little tolerance for long term sacrifice, and I have a hard time seeing hard things through to the end. I want things now and I want it easy.

This is a weakness that needs to be addressed in all of us. Like the priest said in mass today, if what you are going after doesn't cost much, it isn't worth much now is it? We all sit around and look at our lives that are half of what they could be, and we wonder why.

I’m telling you today, THIS IS WHY. We need to strive for better and we need to teach ourselves to sacrifice. Not for a day, not for a week, not even a year. We need to sacrifice our simple easy comfort for work, time, and patients. This will create true happiness, this will create the life you imagine, this will build your personal confidence.

Then, after all that sacrifice and work, when you look around at the life you've built and the people you've helped... you might just realize... it was never a sacrifice at all.
