Now that I am more aware of my mental energy, I have become way stricter about protecting it.
The only thing I can compare mental energy to, is a diet for your brain. You never realize how gross you feel from fast food until you have only eaten real home cooked meals for months.
Your mental energy works the same way as your digestive system. Spending time with negative people, is the equivalent to eating out at Wendy's.
On the other side of the coin, spending time with positive people is like a fresh salad you made from veggies you grew yourself.
When you have low mental energy you have low physical energy, low motivation, and low idea quality.
This is why it is so important to recognize who is taking your energy and who is giving it to you.
Then, as you go through life and things get hard, you can start to understand who you need to be around to keep you going.
We are all going to have hard days, weeks, months, even years. But, if the people in your life during these times give you energy and life, then you won't feel so hopeless.
Be careful though, you must remember it is not just about taking energy from others. It is also about what energy you give off.
So, I challenge you this next week start taking note of who in your life makes you feel like you could run a marathon and who does the complete opposite. Also, take note of how people walk away from you feeling. Did you lift them up? Or did you dump so much of your negativity on them that they need to take a nap.
