Lately I have been really thinking about my values.
As we go through life, I think it is very important to have values to live by.
Although, I really have not given much thought to what they are specifically, and I don't think a lot of people do.
Of course, we know what we care about and could probably say a few things we value if asked, but we don't ever really sit down and lay out exact values for our life.
So, to start doing this in my life, I have been really trying to focus on things that I find meaningful, and I live by
During today’s Church service the pastor said something that really made me think.
He talked about how the birth of Jesus was first announced to the shepherds, the people who were orphans and not worthy to be a part of society.
He said, they were chosen because they understood how to care for a flock more than any other human. They understood that they need to tend to the sheep and go after the lost sheep even when it was just one.
It was their job to go after the one lost sheep, even if they had hundreds and there was only one that needed to be brought back to the flock.
This made me realize that this is something I value as well.
Even if there are hundreds, if you keep letting one sheep get lost after another... soon you will have none.
We under appreciate the value in one person when we look at a large group, but fail to realize there was never a group until one by one, people came together.
This is what we need to start to understand as we go in life, one by one we need to help each other until it is a mass movement. Each person matters, even being one short will leave the flock weaker.
If you do not hold the standard for losing one... soon you will have none.
The shepherds understood this and to become a leader, you must as well.
