The Bison

Recently I was asked what my favorite animal was outside of a house animal or farm animal. This being a very random question to ask a 23-year-old, I had to give it a few minutes of thought. After a few seconds of going through animals I thought of one I see symbolized quite often and have always loved. It was the bison.

I know it is not an animal everyone typically chooses, and honestly, I never would have thought I would choose it either. I really know nothing about bison, and until today have never even tried to learn about them. I just realized that over the past year or two they have popped up a lot in random areas of my life and I have taken a special notice to them. I realized how whenever I did see one, I really loved the symbol, painting, or whatever it was.

Kind of like when you decide you want a specific car and then all the sudden you see that car everywhere.

I also have seen Andy Frisella, someone I value and very much admire, wear a hat with a bison on it quite often. I always noticed it but never gave it much thought past "I really like his hat"

So, that got me thinking, what is the symbol of the bison and what does it mean?

Well, doing some research, I am glad I investigated the meaning of the bison.

The bison is known for strength, courage, and grit. It was a cherished animal by the Native Americans and had many spiritual meanings as well. Spiritually, it is known for the following: strength, protection, survival, courage, changes, gratitude, prayer, abundance, and freedom.

Notice... the last thing I stated the bison is known for.

Freedom.

The bison is the symbol of personal excellence. You do not earn freedom until you have all the words that come before it, which create personal excellence.

I am fighting for my freedom every day by working to live by all those words. I believe I have been unknowingly attracted to the bison because I have been striving for personal excellence. I am intrigued by the goal. I want to embody everything the spiritual meaning of the bison is. I am nowhere close, but I am working every day on the spiritual meanings above.

Are you constantly striving for your own personal excellence? What are you doing today for your freedom?

I will be a considered a bison of the world.

Will you?
