New Year

New Year, New You.
That’s the goal every year: something better, something to fix, and something to work towards.
I love it, and I’m all for self-improvement, even if it takes January 1st to get you started.
However, I want to shift the mindset around why you should get better this year.
Instead of focusing solely on yourself and how it will benefit you, I challenge you: What can you change this year that will also improve the lives of those around you?
So, instead of thinking, “I’m going to start a diet because I’ve been eating badly,” think instead, “I’m going to start a diet so I can set a good example for my children.”
Or, “I’m going to work out because I want to lose 20 pounds.” (A great reason, yes!) But also think about how you might inspire someone else to do the same.
Sometimes, I think we focus too much on ourselves, and that can lead to a life that feels empty or lacking meaning.
We must improve ourselves every day, yes—but not always for our own benefit. We should want to get better so we can offer more to the world, not just to satisfy an internal desire or fantasy.
There’s nothing wrong with pursuing something because you want it, but I guarantee you'll be more likely to stick with it if you’re doing it for someone else.
Just a thought.
