Everything we do has an impact.
"Energy is defined as the ability to do work. During an impact, an object's energy is converted into work" (Johnson, 2020).
So, the amount of work you are doing is directly connected to your impact.
The only caveat is, when it comes to universal actions and not physical actions, you don't get immediate feedback on how impactful your work is and to who.
You must work and put out energy and hope it helps others and has the greatest impact possible. Eventually, yes you will see the results, but it is much different than physical impact where the results are immediate.
Emotional or universal impact is something that you just must trust will be beneficial when it is needed. You just must do the right thing whether you are being watched or not and wait for the impact to happen.
I experienced this back in high school where I met my current boyfriend, Caleb. I remember watching him though high school and thinking how he was always kind of different but in a good way.
He would work out on his own, he worked through school, and he always put his little brother and sister before anything else.
What 16-year-old does that?
Closer to the end of high school we started hanging out more and working out together, because the only time he had to hang out was if we went to the gym.
He had discipline and was so okay with just being on his own and I loved it.
You know what the most interesting part of it all is though?
He never did any of those things to impress me or others. He was never asking for attention; he just naturally got it because he was doing the right things.
Funny thing about people is, they always want to be a part of the right thing whether they admit it or not.
Thanks to Caleb’s hard work just being himself, he created major impact into the lives of others, and me. He changed the way I saw working out and being healthy, he taught me to appreciate doing things on my own, and he showed me a lot of things that have created who I am today.
Truth is, you never know the impact you are making and on who.
Sometimes, people don't notice and sometimes you are doing it just for yourself, but eventually, it will make a difference. You never know when or how but you will change someone’s life.
Remember this in everything you do. When you are making a decision think to yourself, what kind of impact could this make? How much work will it take from me? And who could this possibly help or even hurt?
Even when you are alone and no one is watching, act as if someone was, and base your decision off that.
Thank you, Caleb, and Happy Birthday.
