When I was in younger, my dad would take me to school in the morning. Each day we would go to the gas station, get a donut, and we would spend the ride talking about random things. Although, my favorite conversation would be all the things we could be when we grew up.
We would talk about becoming a lawyer or all the different types of businesses you could start. The whole ride we'd plan out exactly how we would do it and all the fun things you could do inside each idea.
I loved it. It taught me to think big and dream big. It taught me to never settle for something that I didn't really want.
Which I almost do, often.
Every time I think "wow, maybe I should just stop looking and go find a long-term job" I remember all the dreaming I did when I was younger. I remember how fun it is to dream big and become the version of yourself that your mind wants you to be.
Especially when in the real world no one around you really believes in that "you can be whatever you want" speech. You are told that by a bunch of people that didn't even go and try to live their dreams. They all want you to be as "safe" and stuck as they are because they can't admit they quit on what they really wanted.
I was lucky enough to have dreaming big mentality reinforced in me every morning. So, when I went to school I had a whole day’s worth of dreaming to do while all the other kids were taught to follow suit and do as everyone else does.
Thank you, dad, for teaching me to dream big, I'm working on making it a reality.
Happy Birthday.
